New York City Micro Apartment

Dinner on the couch, shoes inside the cabinet, loft beds and apartment shares with Craigslisters....New Yorkers lives in a tiny space everyday! In the heart of the city, if you could find a 500 sq ft studio for less than $1500, you are consider lucky. So, what's the solutions if more people are moving into the city And with Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC report predicting that Gotham will gain 1 million new residents by 2030, space will continue to come at a premium. As in many urban areas across the country, the proportion of single adults is soaring.

So Mayor Bloomberg set foot and launched a micro-apartment plan, although cities such as San Francisco and Tokyo have already taken similar stepsA micro-apartment is typically defined as a studio with less than 400 square feet, not much bigger than a typical college dorm room. These apartments, at 250 to 370 square feet, will be exempt from city rules that require new units to be at least 400 square feet.
With smaller living spaces, new apartment buildings could literally pack in more renters. That’s the “less is more” concept that drove the competition to design, construct and operate the city’s first micro-unit apartment building.

"All of the units will have 10-foot-high ceilings, Juliet balconies (which don't project from the building), big windows and ample storage, according to Bloomberg. The New York Times writes that “if the rendering is any indication,” the micro-units “manage to feel roomy and inviting.” (Click here or on an image to go to a slideshow of the winning micro-apartment design.)" Bloomberg News source

The 55 micro-apartments, on a city-owned site at 335 East 27th Street in Manhattan, are supposed to be ready for move-in by September 2015. There’s no indication yet of what the units will cost to rent, but 22 of them will be set aside for low- and middle-income renters who make 80 percent to 155 percent of the Area Median Income. The income-restricted unit rents will range from $940 to $1,870 a month, city housing officials told Yahoo! Homes.

"The Museum of the City of New York—in conjunction with CHPC—has opened “Making Room,” an exhibit presenting ways that housing might accommodate these changing demographics. The show displays models, videos and photographs, along with a full-scale, 325-square-foot micro-unit built right into the gallery, designed by Pierluigi Colombo (of Italian design firm Clei) and Amie Gross Architects. We spoke with co-curator Donald Albrecht, who organized the exhibition with Andrew W. Mellon post-doctoral curatorial fellow Andrea Renner, about the mini digs and how the city can maximize space for the exploding single population. DON’T MISS THIS In July 2012, the Bloomberg administration launched adAPT, a competition to develop an entire building of modular micro-units for one- or two-person households. The winning design has been approved for construction on E 27th St; it is on display as part of the exhibit along with four other notable proposals.

“Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers” is now on view at the Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Ave between 103rd and 104th Sts (212-534-1672, mcny.org). Daily 10am–6pm; suggested donation $10, seniors and students $6, children 12 and under free. Through Sept 15." Time Out New York News Source

Story Island Of Taiwan - Our Heavenly Vacation

My favorite music composer, CinCin Lee have returned with a more amazing album. In her latest masterwork, she has immersed herself in her traveling experiences to create this album along her music notes, thoughts and photographs.

Story Island is a combined music and video documentary about 14 ordinary people reflecting on their careers and families in various parts of Taiwan. The album comes with three short films about these individuals, who include farmers, hostel-keepers and aboriginals. Themes such as simplicity, harmony and warmth are as abundant in the film profiles as in the music. This intimate picture is the work of composer CinCin Lee, winner of the 2005 Golden Horse award for best film music. To create Story Island, she spent three years travelling around Taiwan picking up folk tunes and the feeling of life at grass-roots level.

Startup Weekend NYC - WeWork Lounge Soho

Is it possible to launch a successful startup from scratch in only 54 hours? Well... Yes! Of course! Thanks to the entrepreneur Cyndi from Content Ramen, I have the opportunity to join the team as a volunteer in Startup Weekend NYC.

Startup Weekend NYC brings entrepreneurs and supporters together and teaches them how to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch companies, all during a 54-hour crash-course weekend. Sounds crazy right? Well, but it's possible and since some of the ideas have come true and turns out to be some real companies.

The Startup Weekend in New York City is on its final day in WeWork Lounge, Soho, and it’s been quite a journey! Definitely exciting and I can't wait for the final results!

Did you know Google is the main sponsor of Startup Weekend? According to Techcrunch, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged $250,000 to the Startup Weekend EDU series of events, the dedicated education-focused vertical within the non-profit. Finally, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, turned Startup Weekend into the one of its affiliates.

Why Do People In Relationships Think It's Ok To Abandon Their Friends?

Are you that person who dump your friends behind when you in a relationship or in a marriage? Is this normal? Should you be offended if this happens to you?

Of course yes! I understand is natural for someone to get excited about a new love interest, and therefore devote most of their free time to them in the beginning. However, they shouldn't left their friends behind. Like everything else in life, balance is the key!

I mean, seriously! Ignoring your friends, ignoring your friend's birthday (even there's notification on Facebook that would remind you few days in advance), get angry with them for trying to get in touch, really?

True enough, sometimes it is hard when we first fall in love with someone to even think about spending time away from our lover and with our friends instead, but we must never forget the importance of maintaining all of our relationships. A true friend should be treated as a true friend. And hey, if one day your significant other cheated on you, who else is left to be with you? And seriously nowadays cheating is such a common thing in the new era! (No offense, I'm not one of them :)

Never ignore your friends because you have a relationship.
In short, your friend shouldn't completely abandon their previous life in order to spend time in their new relationship.

Maybe is a problem when you completely ignore your friend when you're in a relationship, but comes crawling back each time when you're single again, that's a problem. Or are you that person who use friends as "something to do" until they meet a romantic partner are missing out on a very important part of their emotional life?

Seriously. It is worth it that you'd throw away a long time friendship just because you have met someone new in your life? Or you gonna replace your significant other's BFF as your new best friend by ignoring your old friends behind? Think about it.

What would you do if you have a snow day?

What would you do if you have a snow day? Were you the kind of kid who:

1. ... would hide behind the pillars at the entrances to Central Park and pelt expensive cars with snowballs as they drove by?
2. ... make snow angels in the normally untouchably dangerous turf in Tompkins Square Park?
3. ... stick your tongue to icicles hanging off the Manhattan Bridge overpass?
4. ... make yellow snow on the pristine, untouched stretch of grass in the middle of Park Avenue?
5. ... watch other kids playing through the glass door, hiding from the weather with some hot chocolate and the homeless guy in your entryway?
Wow. Translating our suburban snow fantasies into city life was even grimmer than we thought.

Tell me your story, my friend.

Obama | Martin Luther King Jr - I Have A Dream

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
Martin Luther King Jr.

"We will defend our people and uphold our values through strength of arms and rule of law. We will show the courage to try and resolve our differences with other nations peacefully – not because we are naïve about the dangers we face, but because engagement can more durably lift suspicion and fear."
Barack Obama

"Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Gay brothers and sisters treated equal under law.”
Barack Obama

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
Martin Luther King Jr.

"The words I spoke today are not so different from the oath that is taken each time a soldier signs up for duty."

"With passion & dedication, let us answer the call of history and carry into an uncertain future that precious light of freedom." "You and I, as citizens, have the power to set this country’s course." "Let us answer the call of history, and carry into an uncertain future that precious light of freedom."

Footprints of John Lennon in Upper West Side

Upper West Side of Manhattan, Often remembered nowadays as the location of the murder of Former Beatles member, John Lennon. Now  I'm walking down the road of John Lenno and Yuko Ono once had passed ... Feeling blue ...

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try

No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one I
hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

71 Irving Place Coffee & Tea Bar Review

My late afternoon was surrounded in the coffee world. Located just a few blocks away from the north of Union Square, the unique coffee shop is in the perfect location, despite it is away from the famous tourist district, I won't find many out of town type of people hanging out in the area, mostly the area is reserved for New Yorker ;)

This amazing coffee place have an ambience that fosters relaxation among those who are inside, they have the magic of make me think of nothing else but the cozy and warm feel of the place and the rich taste of my favorite cappuccino. Although it could be crowded most of the time but it is such a cute place to have my afternoon tea and coffee.  They also served as the perfect place to chat and all I have to do is go to 71 Irving Place and have a cup of coffee to escape from the reality.
